Here’s Auro’s low down on the UK’s best running events of 2018. We’re over halfway through the year, but there’s still time to pound that pavement, get yourself a medal and another T-shirt for your collection.
Great North Run 9 September
Welcome to the biggest half marathon in the world! Starting in Newcastle and finishing along the coast at South Shields, this is one of the most popular runs the UK has to offer. With thousands of supporters lining the route, the atmosphere is electric and alongside 57, 000 runners you won’t forget this experience in a hurry.
Beat Box Hill 5K/10K 30 September
A unique opportunity to run down, and then back up the famous Box Hill in Surrey. Auro are actually sponsoring this race! So check out their website to see how you can get involved.
Box Hill lies within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its zig zag road will be closed for only the third ever time for a sporting event, one of which being cycling during the 2012 Olympics. This really will be history in the making!
There will be 3 timing points within this 5K or 10K race. A downhill 1 mile, certainly the fastest mile you will ever run, followed by an uphill mile, possibly your slowest ever, and then your overall 5K & 10K finish time. You’ll want to see your splits after this race!
Each KM will be accurately marked out and there will be plenty of helpers to encourage you on your way up that hill to the finish line. Included in your entry fee is a specially themed medal, event T-shirt, water and other post-race goodies. You’ve earned it!

The Running Festival at Goodwood 14 October
One for the petrol heads! Goodwood is a beautiful estate in the heart of West Sussex, home to the world-famous Festival of Speed and Qatar Goodwood Festival. Here’s the chance to run its historic motor track, races including a 10K, half marathon, and family friendly 1 mile lap. This really is a day for all runners, no matter your age or ability.
Finishers (including those doing the family lap) will receive a medal, souvenir T-shirt, massages both before and after racing, and a goodie bag.
Simplyhealth Canine Run 20 October
Don’t leave your pooch at home, bring him along to the Simplyhealth Canine Run for a 2.5km route along the Clarence Esplanade in Portsmouth.
It’s £15 for entry, and only one dog per runner (probably sensible). Spaces are limited so be quick to grab a ticket!
It’s the ideal way to get fit with your four legged friend!
Top Tip! Should you run when you’re sore?
Gut Buster 30 December
Start off the new year with a bang at the 2018 Gut Buster. Described as an epic mud fest, this 10K or 10 mile course takes you cross-country. The grand finale is a 400m slog through a cabbage field! Not for the fainthearted, but definitely full of fun and a great way of burning off any Christmas indulgences.
