Running Tips For Lazy People

Have you ever wondered why people love running so much? If you’ve been struggling to keep up with your resolutions (is it still OK to start these in August?) then you are in very good company. Most people think they “can’t run”, they don’t have the time, energy, or skillset, but I promise you it can be done. Here’s our best running tips for lazy people, so you have no excuses not to pound the pavement.

 

Feeling unmotivated

Ever gone for one run, with entirely good intentions for continuing, and then never looked at your trainers again? Sign up for a race so you have an actual, real life goal to work towards. It can be a short charity fun run, a popular 5K, or if you’re feeling daring, a 10K. Putting your name down for something means you’re more likely to actually put in the hard work, so don’t be afraid to properly commit.

Find some like minded people to help support you along the way. Runners have a huge community all over the globe, so head on down to your local ParkRun, or try and rope in a friend to train with you.

 

Don’t have the time

Waking up at the crack of dawn to go for a lovely 6 mile run may be fine for some, but for most it isn’t their idea of a good time. Running laps round and round your house also seems like a waste of your precious time, so what to do?

Part of the joy of running is that you can do it at any time of day, rain or shine. Combat the aimlessness of jogging by running to places. Run home from work or jog to the shops. Once you’ve fitted a run into your already busy schedule, you’ll soon find you are making time to train.

 

Can’t run long distances

We’ve all got to start somewhere. Most marathoners complete their mammoth course using a combination of running and walking. If it’s good enough for them, it’s great for you, so don’t beat yourself up if you find it hard at the beginning.

You need to build up your strength and stamina to enable you to keep on going for longer. This means starting from scratch by doing slow, short distance runs. Before you know it, you’ll be able to do longer stints like a proper champion runner.

If this gets a little boring, you could try surge running once you’ve found your feet. This is a shorter running workout at a high intensity – think shorter spurts of running at a quicker pace. This is great for improving your endurance and will keep your training sessions fresh and varied.

 

Embrace your inner sloth

This is where laziness pays off! Research shows that a proper night’s sleep is vital for our general health and well-being. It reduces stress and weight gain, as well as allowing your muscles to recover and develop after each run. Getting 8 hours a night regularly is a simple (and lazy) way to improve your new found healthy lifestyle.

So go get some shut eye, you running pro. After all your hard work you deserve it.
