Does your fitness journey feel lonely?

Does your fitness journey feel lonely?

So, picture this: you’ve been sticking to your training plan like crazy and have been eating super healthy. You are finally making the progress you have always wanted to make and are starting to feel super confident and happy in yourself. Then you go online and see pictures of your friends from a great night out that you missed because you had to train early the next morning. You have serious FOMO but don’t want to risk slipping away from the great progress you have made. Have you ever been in a similar situation? How did it make you feel? Sad? Relieved? Conflicted? It’s totally okay to feel this way, and there are loads more people that are in the same situation.

At the end of the day, no one can lose the weight, gain the muscle or tone up for you. This is something you have to do for yourself, so we can’t help but feel a little demotivated and alone sometimes. Food we once enjoyed can just be seen as ‘fuel’ and workouts we used to love can become chores. Auro want to provide you with advice to help you stay positive and motivated on your fitness journey and teach you the beauty of balance.

1) One night of fun won’t affect weeks of effort

When attending a social event, the important thing to remember is: ONE NIGHT WON’T CHANGE ANYTHING. If you have dinner plans and want to relax and indulge, simply adjust your macros for the day and save most of your carbs and fats for dinner. Perhaps try some eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes for breakfast followed by a super green salad for lunch. These are low carb, low calorie meals meaning you can enjoy a dinner of your choice and put your mind at ease. Additionally, if you want to enjoy some alcoholic drinks, spirits like gin and slimline tonic or vodka lime soda are a fab low calorie alternative to wine or beer.

2) Get creative with meals

One particular struggle can be deciding what to eat as a family or shared household when your meal plan is different to those around you. This can sometimes cause conflict and it can feel really excluding eating a meal that is different to everyone else’s (especially when your friend’s burger looks way more delicious than your leafy green salad). A way to resolve this is to try to compromise and combine the foods you both enjoy. There are so many classic ‘junk food’ meals you can put a healthy twist into. For example, cauliflower pizza is a great alternative for your takeout pizza, turkey burgers are higher protein and less fat than a beef burger, sweet potato fries contain more nutrients and lower calories than regular fries and loads more! Check out Auro’s meal plans on our app for some delicious healthy twists on your favourite foods.

3) Love yourself

Something that could really help keep you motivated during your fitness journey is to keep a journal and write yourself love notes. Tell yourself how proud you are and how you feel watching yourself blossom into a healthier, more confident being. Write down your struggles to keep your head clear, but also write down 3 things every day that you are grateful for and that you like about yourself.

4) Switch up your routine

Are you sick of spending your early mornings in the gym instead of lie-ins with your loved one? Or perhaps you have been spending your time exercising after work when you could’ve been hanging out with friends? This can make it seem as if the people around us are becoming more and more distant. If this is bringing you down and starting to feel isolating, then you need to learn how to balance out your routine. It is so important to make time for your loved ones. So, be sure to take rest days to spend with the people around you, your muscles need time to relax and repair anyway! You could even ask your friends and family if they would like to come and work out with you, whether this is yoga in the park, going for a jog or throwing on your favourite song and smashing a HIIT class together. At Auro, we offer a range of HIIT, bodyweight, yoga, pilates and many more classes you can do together in the gym or in the comfort of your own home.

5) Listen to how you feel on the inside

When you exercise, chemicals called endorphins are released which make you feel good. How you feel on the INSIDE should be your priority over how you look on the outside. If you are not enjoying your workout routine, switch it up and try something new – have you ever tried a hobby with a friend? Swimming, horse riding or even just a walk in the park? You could join a yoga group or start doing a fitness class with your gym instead of working out alone. Whatever you do, working out should never feel like a punishment.

6) Share your journey

There are a ton of online communities you can join where you can share your journey and meet other people just like you! The Auro Facebook community is a great place to start if you want to join a group to share your efforts with other people who are on their own fitness journey. Being part of an online community is like having your own little fitness family where you can share tips and encourage one another. There are so many people out their experiencing similar struggles and it is important to stick together!
